Part of the Best of Knitter's series, Arans & Celtics is a compilation of patterns from past issues of Knitter's magazine - and they have picked a gorgeous selection!

As with all XRX books the photos of the garments are clear and the stitches crisp and visible - crossing cables, traveling stitch designs and bobbles galore. From refined and traditional styles to innovative combinations of stitches this is a great resource for both those who are neophyte knitters of cables to those with cabling confidence.

For the adventurous knitter who has always wanted to knit an Aran from the neck down, Joan Schrouder's "Upside-down Aran" with saddle shoulders will expand your knitting knowledge. Sally Melville's "A Vest of Many Stitches" is also a popular favourite (shown above left) that is included - an impressive combination of textural stitches that are best knit in optimum knitting conditions.

There are several projects for kids and men too including "Guernsey gals" pullover sized from 1/2 to 8/10 for kids up to XS to 1X for women; a more masculine version "Guernsey guys" sized from 4 to 8 for kids and S to 1X for men; and "Copycat Vests" for children size 4 to 12, and adult from S to 1X - this innovative design has the same instructions for both the childrens version and Adult - just a change in gauge (ie yarn used).

Some of the simpler projects for intermediate knitters have cable motifs surrounding simpler stitches, large gauge patterns with simple cables, plus there is a teddy bear sweater for those looking for a small project to get some cabling experience. Gauge varies from 10 sts per 4" to 27 sts per 4" so you have lots of options to choose from, 30 projects in all.
