Lily of the Valley Stole
from Fiddlesticks Knitting

The Lily of the Valley Stole is a pretty and feminine wrap, featuring traditional Estonian lace patterns. Little bobbles called "nupps," create the illusion of sweet sprays of lily of the valley.

The shawl is worked by knitting a lace edging from which stitches are picked up to knit the main rectangular body. Then it is finished by knitting another lace edging and the stitches are cast off in the Estonian style.

NOTE: Fiddlesticks Patterns use charts.
There are detailed instructions on the garment construction, how to work the charts and special stitches, but the stitch pattern designs are all charted.

Yarn requirements:
4 ounces of Zephyr Laceweight Wool-Silk (2 balls - 1,260 yards), a unique combination of natural fibres (50% merino wool and 50% Tussah silk) makes a yarn that is lightweight and lustrous.
If a longer stole is desired, order 6 ounces of yarn (3 balls - 1,890 yards) and work extra repeats.

Finished size :
is 73 inches long and 28 inches wide.

Recommended for Intermediate lace knitters.

3.5 (US 4) straight or 24" circulars, or size needed to obtain gauge

These fabulous new circular needles from Addi Turbo - the long respected name in well-crafted knitting needles - offer you enhanced features for both lace and sock knitting. They have sharp tips making it easier to work fine stitches; the needles are coated to give just the right amount of 'stick' so you have better control of lace stitches; and they have smooth joins between the needles and cord.

When selecting a needle size note that while the pattern has a suggested size (see above for Recommended needle size), you may need to use a different needle size in order to get gauge. If your experience with other Fiddlesticks patterns is that you have to go up or down a needle size to match gauge, then select the appropriate size.
