What is RSS? feed Icon
Trying to stay current with all the information available on the web that you consider valuable can be a lot of work. Rather than clicking from site to site checking for updates, RSS (Really Simple Syndication) brings the information directly to you whenever a site is updated. You simply subscribe to the sites that you have an interest in (ones that offer rss feeds) and you will be notified when new content is available.

Why are we using it?

  • We can deliver timely updates - as soon as a new tantalizing title arrives, or irresistable Fiddlesticks or Déjà Vu Knits pattern is available, an RSS feed will be issued.
  • When special sales or events are announced, you can check it out asap
  • It's totally in control of the recipient. No one can send anyone an unwanted feed. You must subscribe to get it.
  • If you need to change your email address you will still receive the feeds you want, because they don't use email.

Step 1 - getting a News Reader
To get started you need a piece of software that checks for RSS feeds and lets you view the information that you want. This software is called a News Reader, RSS Feed Reader, or News Aggregator. There are also web sites that act as News Readers and the newest versions of several browsers (Firefox, Opera and Safari) now have RSS Feed technology built in to them.
